Atomic Model Challenge (wiki)

Can you work with a partner from another class period to illustrate and present one of the historical models of the atom to our class? You and your partner will PRETEND that you live in different cities while working on this challenge. For example, you will pretend one of you are in Paris, France and the other is in Munich, Germany. At no time will you be able to work together "in person". All communication and work between you on this project must be conducted online on this wiki.

Quantum Theory and the Particle Accelerator at CERN (web conference)

After writing their research paper, students will have an opportunity to ask questions about the recent test run of the world's largest particle acelerator. Students will conference with CERN's educational consultants over the webcam. We may need to tape our questions and send the file to CERN due to time differences. (This project is still in the planning stages.)

Metric System (voicethread)

How would your favorite sport change if the US adopted the metric system as its official measurement system?

  • Video “Why We Need the Metric System…American Chopper versus The Metric System”.
  • Voicethread is likely a new type of presentation multimedia for students.
  • Students create a Voicethread to present their research and answer to the Essential Question.
  • Students use pictures and narration to present their research.
  • Using digital technology to present research in a format other than paper and pencil.
